A warm welcome to Reception at St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School.
At St. Paul’s we proudly follow the guidance of Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS principles taken from Development Matters are found within four themes, and the commitments within each theme indicate how they should be put into practice.
The four themes are outlined below:
1. A Unique Child – “every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.”
2. Positive Relationships – “children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.”
3. Enabling Environments – “children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.”
4. Learning and Development – “children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early year’s provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.”
Within the classroom and in our outside space, we cover the 7 prime areas of the curriculum with activities which stimulate the children to take part, and take ownership of their learning. Children can choose and explore their own activities and share their interests promoting a love of learning. Through careful guidance, training and inspirational activities the children in our care make progress and are challenged to reach their full potential both in the EYFS and being prepared for their journey through the school.
